Almansa

Almansa is about an hour’s drive from Alicante, travelling along the Madrid road. Situated in the almost desert like interior of some of Spain's most dramatic scenery, it is truly like the jewel in the Crown. Dominated by Almansa Castle, this town’s main industry is the manufacture of gentlemen’s shoes.

Spain is famous for its Fiestas, and Almansa is no exception. Their May Fiesta lasts for a week and depicts the taking of the castle from the Christians by the Moors, and then its recapture. The processions and battles last for some 4 hours and are quite spectacular.

The Official Twinning Charter, was signed on behalf of Lymington, in Almansa, by Lymington Town Mayor, M Thorpe, and his counterpart, Alcalde Antonio Callado, during the weekend of the 29th April to the 2nd May, 1993.

Visits take place regularly between the two towns, usually once a year. Normally each town takes it in turn to visit, then reciprocate the hospitality the following year. Of course this does not mean that private visits cannot take place, and many such visits are arranged. The forming of individual friendships between twinning families is quite a regular occurrence.

One thing you will always be sure of in Almansa is a warm and friendly welcome. To view photographs of Almansa click on the link below. To visit the official Almansa web-site, click on the link shown below.
